Personality:
At her introduction, Vivio was a crybaby six year old girl who had childish tendencies and was very clingy. Those clingy habits caused her to latch onto Nanoha Takamachi, who adopted her at the end of the series. Even during StrikerS, Vivio evolved as a character to become a much tougher little girl.
But this Vivio comes from Vivid. During the four year gap between StrikerS and Vivid, Vivio grows into quite the different person. She develops many personality traits similar to her mothers as well as her unique characteristics that come from her unique situation.
As far as traits from Nanoha go, Vivio is an upbeat girl who works crazy hard for things she wants and is very sincere in her actions. Throughout the manga series, Vivio is usually smiling and behaving energetically. When greeting people or saying good-bye, Vivio typically gives high fives to her friends and mother, while not doing so in more formal situations. Facing the day with a smile seems to be the way that Vivio prefers to do things and she lives her days with a balance between optimism and realism. For example, there is a fight where Vivio recognizes that she will lose, but she still decides to fight with her all in an optimistic manner. So even though she is able to look at a situation realistically it does not mean she lets a negative reality hold her down. Vivio will still try her best, just as a principle of her character.
Her energy also makes Vivio a very physically active person. Her idea of a fun day with her friends is practicing martial arts or competing in a friendly manner with others. We don't very often see Vivio just sitting around if she has a more active option. One of her biggest hobbies is Strike Arts, which is a form of martial arts, and she's quite dedicated to it. Aside from Strike Arts, Vivio really enjoys swimming. She also considers sparring to be a fun way to pass time.
Vivio works just as hard as her mama did, if not more (for her age, anyway), to achieve what she wants. She is portrayed as being an ace student in school because she works so hard. Vivio studies diligently and we know she took the time to lay down the basics in magic with Nanoha, since Nanoha rewards her for this later on. Vivio also trains hard to keep her body in good shape, as we see her taking a long jog in the morning before school starts and then taking another jog after dinner in the evening. She trains very hard to improve her Strike Arts and has a training montage where she spends one week training especially hard for a friend's sake.
This is partially because Vivio has grown up with the philosophy that in order to be able to protect people who must be able to first protect yourself. To do this, Vivio knows she needs to train herself hard so that she can handle both the safety of herself and the safety of those she cares about. This careful discipline helps her to excel at the things she tries for.
Also like Nanoha, Vivio is a very sincere person. She behaves in a way that really is honestly caring. It isn't very hard for Vivio to take to a person and consider them a friend. She is good at finding ways to connect with people and is sensitive to their needs. When Einhard's reaction to their sparring seems down, Vivio takes it very harshly. One thing that can make Vivio feel sadder than anything is failure to please another person, though she does not let that control her by needing to meet all expectations. Vivio just wants to make people happy and feels bad when she fails to do so, especially in the case where Einhard really seemed to be counting on her.
She's also insanely friendly, like her mother was, but we have more chances to see Vivio apply her friendliness to her non-magical life. When she decides to befriend Einhart Vivio decides to befriend Einhard. She is very forward about this and takes every chance that she can to become closer to Einhart. Vivio gets embarrassed and happy when Einhard responds well to this too, to the point that Vivio's excitement about friend making seems to be similar to a girl with a puppydog crush. She's quite persistent with her friend-making.
Her Nanoha-related traits are not just mimicking her mother--- Vivio has had a chance to learn from her mother's mistakes and to not make them herself. Nanoha was injured and almost lost her ability to walk or fly as a result of pushing herself too hard. This has taught Vivio that she needs to pace herself, otherwise she will eventually start going backwards instead of forwards.
There is also the fact that Vivio has two high-ranking magical mamas around her. Even her family friends, like Subaru and Hayate, are very close to uber-ranked in terms of magic. When the adults and kids trained together, pretty much every adult character lowered their magical abilities to stay on par with Vivio.
All of this means that Vivio is not an uber like her mother. At least, not like Mama Nanoha. And Vivio is very aware of this. She knows that the adults have more experience than her and she respects that. Vivio isn't likely to go charging into a situation unprepared because she has learned that is a bad idea through Nanoha and Fate. Similarly, Vivio does not overestimate her magical abilities. Having the adults lower than rank to stay on her level humbles Vivio.
Vivio does have some characteristics that were not seen as much in her mother, though-- she isn't Nanoha's carbon copy or anything.
For example, Vivio has a much wider social circle than her mother did, which results in her being much more bubbly. Nanoha always felt like the third wheel while Vivio is constantly surrounded by people who really care about her and are careful to pay attention to her--- in a sense, this can maybe make Vivio seem a bit spoiled. She seems to handle it quite well though, possibly because she is so well disciplined--- as is the Takamachi Family way.
She's also well-respected by some people for reasons out of her control. Vivio is held to different expectations because of who she is a "reincarnation" of (more like descendent), her role in the events of StrikerS, and due to being the daughter of the famed Nanoha Takamachi. This all motivates Vivio to work very hard and she doesn't resent the expectations at all. She's very happy to try to meet them, even saying that she strongly wants to be able to proudly announce that she is Nanoha's one and only daughter.
In terms to being called "Your Majesty", Vivio insists constantly that she'd rather not be referred to with formality that isn't deserved by herself. She makes a distinction between herself and her ancestor.
Vivio is also a bit more of a teaser than her mother. The fandom certainly portrays Nanoha as being a bit devious, but it is seen more-so in Vivio. She teases Nanoha and Fate at one point about how they acted when they were her age and joins Nanoha in forcing a group bath upon Fate. Though Vivio's teasing isn't malicious, she is no less guilty of it on occasion. And if anything, it is motivated simply by how friendly she is.
But many of the traits that Vivio differs from her mom are ones she gets because she's so well-loved. Vita mentions in chapter 19.5 that Nanoha keeps her schedule centered around Vivio so that she is never lonely, for example, and loneliness was something that Nanoha struggled with as a child. Vivio lives in a very positive environment and magic is a part of her everyday life, so she doesn't have to hide it from friends and family but can actually embrace it with them. She's a happy girl now thanks to those around her, and thanks to her own personal strength.
Abilities:
Vivio is a mage, meaning that she has the potential to use magic. This is thanks to her Linker Core, an organ in her body that generates mana for magic. Further more, Vivio is an artificial mage, cloned from an ancient hero. This means that her magical and physical abilities are slightly above average, though Vivio is still no where near the level of the adult mages.
As a mage, Vivio is able to use magic with the help of a device. She used to train with Raising Heart, her mother's device, but now has her own device that she calls Sacred Heart. Sacred Heart uses a combination of Modern Belka and Mid-Childa magic fighting styles. Vivio prefers to focus on using Sacred Heart to make her physical attacks and Strike Arts more effective, but it has been noted that this contradicts her natural gift for using long-range magic. This means that her preferred fighting style is not as strong as it could be.
A list of Vivio's attacks can be found here. It includes an extra special ability of hers, which is her adult transformation. Vivio is able to give herself the physical appearance of an adult, but never uses it for playing or goofing off: Her adult transformation exists solely for helping her practice her magic and fighting fairly against those older than her. Vivio retains her childish personality in adult mode and even notes to Nanoha that the transformation is only in appearance. It by no means makes her automatically anymore emotionally grown than a ten year old.
Sample Entry: I played Vivio at Mayfield_rpg. Here is a post I did with her and here is a separate thread.
